Investment Style
The fund has a flexible investment style and is not weighed down by any rigid investment mantras. This means that the managers are unconstrained by index benchmarks preferring to aim for sustainable, and when possible rising, income distributions while preserving capital.
Investment Process
When screening potential investments in corporate debt we concentrate on the ability of a company to support all investors; banks, bond holders and even equity interests. We look for companies or institutions with strong cash flow generation which in turn provides generous at best, and adequate at worst, cover for interest payments.
High yielding preference shares and direct equities have to satisfy the disciplines we employ when considering investments in the Charles Stanley Equity Fund.
We will look at specialist high yield or structured products but if we do not have a full understanding of the underlying arithmetic then they have no place in the fund.
